Standing at 2,558 metres, the Gorfenspitze is not only one of Galtür’s two local mountains – it also serves as a striking landmark above the valley. From its summit, visitors are rewarded with far-reaching views of a mountain landscape rich in stories. The nickname “Weiberhimml” (“women’s heaven”) dates back to a time when men in Galtür did the fieldwork, unlike in other villages where women also had to labour. Marrying into Galtür was seen as landing in heaven – a saying that lives on today. The spot offers year-round access and views of the Gorfenspitze and Paznaun Valley.
